Guidelines for Submission of DOC Sponsorship Request for Symposia/Conferences
The ACS Division of Organic Chemistry (DOC) has allotted a limited set of funds to support organic chemistry-related symposia and conferences. The DOC will consider a sponsorship request up to $500 per symposia/conference, based on available funding. Additional funding can be requested for one or more DOC-sponsored “best poster award” prizes to student and postdoc presenters.
Process for Submitting a Sponsorship Request to The DOC
The DOC Symposium Programming Committee (SPC) will evaluate requests to co-sponsor symposia/conferences based on their potential to attract and engage an audience, timeliness, and alignment of the mission of the DOC. The Conference Chair must be a member of the DOC to submit a request. Conferences that attract existing ACS DOC members or have a plan to encourage attendees to join the DOC will be given higher priority for co-sponsorship.
The DOC encourages sponsorship requests for symposia/conferences that fully reflect the diversity of the membership in the DOC. Therefore, we encourage that selection of speakers for symposia/conferences be balanced when considering gender, groups historically underrepresented in the profession, research area, employment sector, and career stage. We also strongly encourage that a lactation room is made available for conference attendees.
For priority consideration, proposals are due ONE YEAR prior to the date of the symposium/conference. Funding requests will be considered on a rolling basis and based on available funding. Funding requests less than 6 months before a conference will not be considered.
Please submit the following information using the submission template (coming soon) to the Chair of the SPC, Steven Silverman
- (a) title, date and location of symposia/conference
- (b) website for symposia/conference
- (c) name, contact info, and ACS member number of the organizing chair
- (d) list of invited/keynote speakers, including which are DOC members
- (e) diversity statement
Details on how to transfer funding can be found here (coming soon).
DOC Acknowledgement During Symposium/Conference
Symposia/conferences receiving support from the ACS DOC are required to include the DOC logo on the event website, emails and printed flyers. We also request that organizers include a DOC slide announcing the benefits of the ACS DOC during their conference (available as a powerpoint slide or PDF file)
